SURVEY

INTRODUCTION

As a result of the complex nature of our society today which has gradually affected the church are exposing her to severally challenge one decided to expose the students to some basic management studies that would help them.

WHAT IS MANAGEMENT?

Lawrence A. Appley says, “management is getting things done through other people.” Eph. 4:16 – Jesus is the ultimate manager of the body of Christ  according to Eph. 1:22.

·         Jesus had delegated a managerial authority to men. Acts 20:28

·         Jesus was a manager

§  He managed a team a twelve

§  He managed a team of seventy he sent out

WHY IS MANAGEMENT IMPORTANT FOR CHRISTIANS?

1.    It helps Christians achieve excellence!

·         Jesus achieve excellence. Mk. 7:37

·         Paul emphasized the importance of excellence. Phil. 1:10; 4:8

·         Excellence is an attribute of God. Psa. 8:1 & 9

·         We should therefore think excellence. Excels. 9:10

2.    Management helps Christians follow the examples of successful men of God in the bible.

·         Nehemiah

His assignment	To build the walls of Jerusalem
His obstacles	A demoralized people A sparsely of materials Opposite from within and without
His attitude	An indomitable spirit of faith in God
His approach	From beginning to end he demonstrated the dynamics of effective leadership

3.    He proved himself to be a manager per-excellence

·         Joseph: a God inspired manager

·         Daniel: refusing compromise he became one of God’s great manager

·         Moses: the advice from Jethro, his father in-law. Ex. 18:13-26

It is one of the best clearly defined systems of management in the entire bible.

·         Paul: leader of leaders

§  Always having someone travelling with him not only a companion but as a trainee

§  It was a principle of Paul’s life. 2 Tim. 2:2

·         Jesus: the perfect leader

§  Raised up a team. John 17:4,6

§  Referred to them as they, those and them. John 17:6-8

1.    Management helps Christians fulfill their role as God’s stewards

§  Paradise of the talents. Matt. 25:14-30

§  The master rewarded them equally.

§  The main message is that God expects us to wisely use whatever he has given us.
